Congratulations to our Wrestling Program for winning the State 3 A Championship. Our individual wrestler also did very well. Alonzo Grant won state in his class. I want to thank the captains, Steven Bonaparte, Max Fowler, Tony Murphy, and Parker Singleton, for their leadership in bringing this team together through a tough season. I also want to thank our coach, Evan Moxie, who in his first year as head coach brought home a state championship trophy.
Our spring sports: baseball, softball, track, tennis, and soccer are off to a great start. I am impressed with the number of students involved. I know high school is more than just classes and books. Sometimes the best lessons learned come from after school involvement in our sports or arts programs.
The members of our Winter Guard are well on their way to another successful season. They have already been involved in some state shows and will be traveling soon to Ohio to compete at the national level. Good luck.
Registration for next year is underway. Students need to look at their individual graduation plans (IGP) to select classes for next year. Every student entering the 9th grade should walk in with a 4 year plan that focuses on graduation and a bright future. I encourage every student to work hard completing work that will allow him or her to move forward. It is so important for students to keep up with their classes and to complete courses in a timely manner. Class space is at a critical point in every high school and will become more limited in the future. Repeating classes may not be an option next year for students who fail a class. Students may have to go to summer school or look for other options to receive class credit.
This spring we are going to have many opportunities for students to make a contribution. Many of you will participate in Relay for Life while others will help with Special Olympics. Regardless of which activity you choose here or through a church, civic group, or other group, it is important to become a contributing member of our community. Such experiences make a difference in college acceptance, scholarship, or job interviews.
